Restriction Exception: Educational, Documentary, Scientific, and/or Artistic Materials (EDSA)
UPUN encourages the publication of EDSA Creations, which provide valuable content for educational, documentary, scientific, or artistic purposes. If a recommendation is received from a Mod or Admin, the Creation is granted an EDSA Upgrade, removing the Restriction Penalty and increasing the XP output by 100%.
How EDSA Content is Evaluated
Before granting the EDSA upgrade, we first assess if there are any policy violations that need to be addressed. Afterward, the Creation is evaluated to determine if it qualifies for an EDSA rating, based on the context provided. Players are responsible for including the necessary context to qualify for an EDSA rating. The evaluation considers:
Basic Context: Identify who or what is depicted, explain when and where the content takes place, or provide an explanation for the presence of specific elements (e.g., sensitive or controversial topics).
Condemnation, Opposing Views, or Satire: Show that the content challenges harmful behaviors or views, presents opposing perspectives, or is satirical in nature.
Discouragement of Harmful Behavior: Clearly discourage viewers from mimicking any dangerous or harmful actions depicted in the Creation.
When in doubt, it ’s recommended to include multiple forms of context described above. Context should be integrated directly into the Creation to minimize the risk of misunderstanding or harm.
Contextual Recommendations
Video: Use text overlays, voice narration, or visual cues to clarify the context.
Audio: Provide clear narration that covers condemnation or opposing viewpoints.
Galleries: Add text overlays or descriptive titles for each image.
Books: Dedicate a section (e.g., a chapter) to clarifying any controversial topics or views.
Comments: Ensure that context is added within the comment itself, rather than just the title or description.
Note: Some EDSA Creations may still receive an age restriction if they display particularly sensitive content (e.g., war zone footage).
Content That Will Not Receive an EDSA Rating
Certain types of content cannot qualify for an EDSA upgrade due to their inherently harmful nature:
Child Sexual Abuse Media (CSAM)
Violent physical sexual assault media
Footage recorded by the perpetrator of a violent event showing weapons, violence, or injured victims
Unmodified reuploads of content from violent or criminal organizations
Instructions on self-harm or suicide
Instructions on constructing bombs or weapons intended to harm others
Guides for manufacturing firearms or prohibited accessories
Offers of prohibited sales or services
Content that reveals private information (e.g., home addresses, phone numbers, bank details)
Hardcore pornography
